Just when we thought Audi would give us a look at the new A1 we’ve been duped again! Audi pixelated their A1, which is in no way related to the American steak sauce, in yet another teased promo video. (By the way, if you’re putting A1 on your food, you’re not a good cook) – Footballers Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm got to give Audi A1 a test run in a closed course, and loved every minute. But fear not, German car buffs, from Los Angeles Dealerships to the auction lots in Upstate NY – A1 will be coming your way soon – can’t wait to actually see it!

Our friends over at Fourtitude are following Jason Crouch and his Audi Project TTS:SF. We’d like to turn your attention to one of the hottest DIY projects out there – Jason’s transformation of a TTS into a 300 horse powered beast.

“My name is Jason and I am from San Francisco, CA. Much like most of my fellow Audi enthusiasts, I started out my need for speed with skateboarding. In 1992 I found a British Magazine called TopCar, and that eventually turned to Maxpower and Performance VW. So I have always appreciated it when people would march to their own beat, and make tasteful, refined modifications to their cars. In 1999 I developed a passion for film making. Which is why I am hopeful that this will make this car build-up even more engaging than anything you’ve ever seen done before.” Jason documents his journey to a perfect Audi TT – read more at Fourtitude’s Blog and watch the web series, starting at the episode below:

At first viewing the new Audi A1 design teaser, featuring chief A1 craftsman Jürgen Löffler (say that three times fast), looks like every other preview the German auto maker produces – with little information and not many glances of said vehicle. But take a closer look, you may see more than Jürgen sketching away at the future Audi “Hatchback.” Check out the large, dark paperweight on the design board desk – it’s a model of the all new Audi A1! Staring you in the face for 1.5 minutes, A1 will set a standard – the company’s first “Sportback” two door non-racecar-type vehicle.

This clip not only humanizes the experience of building an automobile – it turns such a process into creating a work of art. Ask any Audi Driver – they’ll tell you each car is a masterpiece. Jürgen gracefully sketches out the future A1 prototype – comparing its look to a sprinter at the ready-stance, about to take off.

“Ready to take off” but not actually going anywhere is accurate when we read hypothesis about what A1′s undercarriage will contain: engines expected to power the new compact include, on the petrol/gasoline side, a 1.2 liter with 86 hp, a 122 hp 1.4 liter, and a turbo 1.4 liter with 170 hp. Diesel offerings are likely also taken from VW’s stable of powerplants, such as the 1.6 liter with 90 hp and the 2.0 liter TDI with 140 hp.

Anyway, Audi’s new Clean Diesel / Audi A5 ad is a bit too much to handle. Don’t worry, there’s a twist, but it’s a bit of an extreme to promote new low-emissions tech.

Audi A1: The countdown starts today

    * Design of the Tokyo and Paris show cars was a sign of things to come
* The subcompact car has Audi genes yet is highly individual
* New face: independence and premium for a new target group

A new name, a new segment, a new car. Is there a more fascinating challenge for a car designer? Bold and surprising design was what the Audi team was aiming for in 2007 when it designed the A1 project quattro for the Tokyo Motor Show and again in 2008 for the A1 Sportback concept for the Paris Auto Show. Both studies are emotion-packed visions for a new, young target group and the particular requirements of city driving, and have been systematically refined ever since. The future is almost here: The countdown to the A1 is on.

The car is still a secret, yet Stefan Sielaff, Head of Design at AUDI AG, is already talking about the future smallest model in the Audi family. “The new A1 has Audi design in its genes. Like all Audi models, the ratio of greenhouse to body is between 1:3 and 2:3. The front overhang is short, but the wheel wells are pronounced, giving the A1 a wide road stance.”

The Audi design team has also come up with something special for the C-pillar. The coupé-like silhouette of the A1 is clearly different from that of the A3. “Audi is renowned for taking a lot of features of its showcars into series production. The roof arch is a unique characteristic of the Tokyo showcar; there is a certain dynamism in the flow of the A- and C-pillars. An important detail for customization; that much I can tell you,” said Sielaff. There will be many ways to customize the A1 to your personal ideas, especially in the interior.

The single-frame grille – a central Audi design feature – will identify the A1 as an Audi. But there’s a surprise in store. “We’ll do something here, maybe with the corners and the width of the grille,” says Sielaff. This will affect the headlights. But more on that in January 2010.

Does one really need an Audi R8 with twin-turbo 536 horse power? No. Do we want one…Yes, yes we certainly do. Heffner Performance released a video this week, chatting up their enhanced Audi R8, which will include a ridiculously giant twin-turbo engine, capable of (an apparent) 536 horses – get along lil doggies!

The 536 rwhp rating is well over 50% higher than a factory-shipped R8. The tuner firm claims that with 100 octane fuel, this car may be able to realize 600 rwhp, and a sub-11 second quarter-mile. Our hearts pitter-patter at hte thought, and cross your fingers Heffner will make it happen.

Audi’s electric R8 ePerformance is scheduled to make a public appearance Sept. 15th, two days prior to the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. But in order to wet enthusiasts’ appetites the German auto maker has launched a new micro site – ElectricityUntamed.com – which features fan made/found viral videos, touting the unpredictable nature of electricity. We promise those on Audi’s site are far less staged then the one above.

More exciting to us then a bunch of youtube clips featuring Jackass-style antics is the above R8 ePerformance Concept image – which is shown off at the end of every clip. You can just make out the headlights and grill, but we’re guessing in two weeks that Audi fans globally will be impressed. The R8 EV is reported to be powered by a massive lithium-ion battery and a series of electric motors. Stay tuned for more details.

Check out some of these insane crash videos featuring real Audi accidents – and survival stories as evidence. **WARNING** Some of these videos are VERY disturbing to watch.

Audi, Greyhound & Semi Meet on the L.I.E.

A few years back local New York news was enthralled with this first person view of a Greyhound-ish bus creaming an Audi sedan between it and a tractor trailer on the Long Island Expressway. The Audi was totaled, smashed up into a little cube – but the car’s driver, trucker and all on the bus were alive. If this wasn’t used in an Audi ad it should have been. Be Warned, the woman’s scream is douche-chill inducing.

Audi Drifting into Crash

Another disturbing crash video – it looks like two Audi drivers have outfitted their ride with rally equipment – but no helmets or proper safety belts? FAIL. And for some reason they spin into a truck, getting a hard punch to the head by airbags. But keep watching, both are moving and squeeze out without a drop of blood that we can see. What’s the only thing more painful than watching this crash? Reading the YouTube viewer comments below it.

Audi R8 Racer Hits the Wall

This Audi R8 race car driver takes a hard hit on the wall during Holland’s 2008 Time Attack competition. Good thing someone stacked all those Firestone tires along the track. The driver walked out uninjured.
