Excited for the 2010 Detroit Auto Show? Audi sure is – they already dropped a concept sketch for 2011′s A8 model. Reports state that not only will future A8 models be introduced at the Detroit unveiling, but previews of upcoming Audi A3 and A6 models could also be seen. For now this is all hearsay, but with Audi you can almost guarantee something amazing will happen in Motor City between January 11th & 24th.

Details about all those up-and-coming Audi models are being kept tightly under wraps. However, Audi has stated in a press release, Detroit will feature a “show car that underscores Vorsprung durch Technik (advancement through technology).”

While an updated A8, future A3 and A6 models are exciting we also can’t wait to see what Audi’s section will be set up to look like. The German auto maker has always been one for the grand show, and hasn’t had any of their logo almost kill those in attendance (cough, Chrysler). In the past, Audi has introduced the Audi A8 W12 and the R8 models at Detroit’s grand motor show.

One of the key ingredients in the A8′s state of the art tech is the “pedestrian detection”
system, which can demonstrate dynamic range adjustment when a possible collision with person/animal/bicyclist/etc is imminent. An onboard computer also includes handwriting recognition for directions – sweet!

According to the official press release, “Set to arrive at U.S. dealerships in late 2010, the initial engine offering is the well known 4.2 FSI V8 with 273 kW (372 hp). The standard transmission is an all-new eight speed tiptronic coupled to the latest generation quattro all wheel drive as standard. 0-100km/h (62 mph) arrives in 5.7 seconds while Audi is claiming an estimated 15 percent improvement in fuel consumption versus the current A8 (EPA figures TBD).”

With that engine capability you shouldn’t expect a 45mpg ride, but the numbers for previous Audi models’ EPA rating have increased steadily over many years. So, fear not eco-commuter, you can have your green Earth and an A8 too!
