Audi S1 Spotted Without Justin Timberlake
Audi’s smallest car may not be making the trans-Atlantic swim, but we’re entitled to a little green-eyed ogling of the hotter S1 version of the 2011 Audi A1, spied testing almost completely undisguised in these photos. The peppier S1 is expected to make its debut in Europe later this year or early next as a 2011 model.
Contrary to previous reports, our spies tell us it will only be available in front-wheel drive–no quattro for you! The 2011 S1 is expected to get a 180-horsepower 1.4-liter dual-charged TFSI engine with 7-speed S tronic gearbox. That should be enough for some serious fun with a proper suspension and the A1′s minimal dimensions. Acceleration should be in the under-six-second range to 60 mph and top speed will likely reach an electronically controlled 155 mph.
In terms of appearance, the S1 looks rather like an S-line A1, though Audi may be holding back on the aggression a bit to save some money and keep the S1 from stepping on the A3/S3′s toes.
